My Boy

Over at the MOB Society, Moms have the opportunity to share a photo of their boy(s) on the last Friday of every month. This is my first time joining in the fun! This is a picture of my boy READING! I want to share this to be an encouragement to Mommas with boys. My son is finishing up his 3rd grade year, and at the beginning of this year I was worried. I was worried he was never going to read. But then I calmed down and recalled all the notes I had taken while reading Dr. Raymond Moore's Book "Better Late than Early" when he was only 4-years-old. This school year I spent a lot of one-on-one time with him each day and we read, and we read, and we read. Today you'll find him actually being STILL and reading Calvin and Hobbes or the dozens of Juvenile Nonfiction he checks out from the library. He can tell you all sorts of things about wildlife and carnivorous plants. This boy is a reading machine. He didn't fit the mold of learning to read in Kindergarten or 1st grade, but each year he made progress, and finally he just took off and is an excellent reader. So, take heart all of you Mommas to boys! Be patient, show them grace, and don't compare them to others. God has "fearfully and wonderfully made" each little man in a unique and special way, and you wouldn't want them to be anyone other than who God created them to be!

This is SUCH an encouragement to boy moms! I'm all about boys and reading -- in fact, I have a post "in the works" about that very thing. Love it!

Thanks, Laura! I really enjoyed looking around at your blog last night! You have raised four boys and are now loving on grandchildren! I value your blog and all the wisdom and experiences you share!

“My boy” – might as well have titled it “my baby” – He will always be your baby – and later in life he’ll squirm at the title – but secretly he’ll love being your baby until he’s old and gray. And your wisdom shared with other momma’s – that is so on target – being a former boy myself – and so nice. God Bless and keep you and all of yours Nikki. I really hearted this post. Thank you.
