Forcing Flowers

I read about forcing flowers and decided it would make a fun nature study for the children. So we asked a friend who has some forsythia bushes if we could come and take some cuttings. We took three cuttings so each of the children could have one to observe and take care of. We turned it into a contest and wanted to see which cutting would flower first.

On the 10th day all three had flowers. My son said, "So no one is the winner." I said, "You are all winners because everyone has flowers." Boys are so competitive and that makes me giggle. The forsythia bushes are not flowering here yet, but we have a little reminder in our window that Spring is coming and it is very near!
