Science Weekly

I recently received one issue of Science weekly to review for The Old Schoolhouse Crew. Science Weekly's motto is "Put a little science in your week." I would describe each issue of Science Weekly as a mini unit study. For instance, the issue we received was all about the Influenza virus and within that unit we did not just stick to science lessons and lab activities, but also vocabulary, math, writing, and critical thinking activities.

My children and I enjoyed learning more about the Influenza virus and how to prevent it. Well, I don't know if they all enjoyed it, sometimes they were a little grossed out. However, we all did learn that we need to be washing our hands longer than we normally do in order to remove all the germs and to help not share our germs with others.

Price: There are 15 issues available each year, and one individual subscription costs $19.95. If you need to order different levels for different ages within your family, that would be $19.95 for each level you order. In my opinion, this is the only drawback for this science resource. For instance, if I want to order each of my three children their own subscription, that would cost $59.85. However, most families who educate at home are good at using a resource and making it appropriate to teach on more than one level. Science weekly is designed for Kindergarten through 6th grade children. Click here for ordering information.

To read more TOS Crew reviews, click over to the blog now. Not all Crew members reviewed the Influenza edition. I know I am looking forward to reading reviews about their composting issue! You can click here to read about the topics that were covered in Science Weekly this year. To download a sample issue click here. I just downloaded mine and it is all about coral reefs. I am thinking it will make a fun summer activity to do together!
