Lesson Planet is an online search engine that strives to help make lesson planning easier for school teachers and home educating parents. The site has over 200,000 lesson plans and worksheets to search through. You can search for things in many different ways such as by topic, state standard, keyword, grade level, and many more ways. This site offers a 10 day free trial. If you like what you see, you can pay $39.95 for a one year membership.
I recently did a search for butterflies, K-2 grade level, and 4 star + rating. It pulled up several lessons for me to choose from. I clicked on one that interested me. I had to read through a description of the lesson, technology benchmarks that will be met in this lesson, materials, hardware, and software needed for the lesson, teacher and student preparation, a list of various activities, management plan, ethics plan, assessment/evaluation, follow-up activities, and finally a list of resources. This is simply more information than I want to wade through in order to find lesson ideas for my children.
I can see how this site could benefit a teacher in a school setting who is responsible for his/her own lesson planning, but this is not something that fits into our style of education.
