Birthday Princess

My daughter, Kaitlyn, turned 5-years-old on November 11th. I cannot believe how quickly time passes! About one week before her birthday she and I went on a date. We picked out her birthday cake, purchased party decor, goodie bags and filler, ate lunch, visited Starbucks, and did some grocery shopping. Oh, and she got a haircut. Her hair is a little shorter than I wanted it...but she said she wanted it up to her chin! We made an ENTIRE day of it!

A special "mommy date" around their birthdays is something I started this year. Tyler got one in August for his birthday. Kaitlyn couldn't hardly wait for her turn to come in November. Lauren will get her date in March! It is really fun and special to get that one-on-one time with the children.

Kaitlyn chose to have a princess party. She wanted a pink princess cake and pink princess punch. So, for the first time in her life another baker, besides me, baked and decorated her cake. She just couldn't resist the beautifully decorated cakes from the bakery any longer. She really wanted to be able to go to the counter of our local Hy-Vee and pick out her own cake. But, I did make some amazing pink princess punch. Since this was a royal affair, I drug out our beautiful punch bowl and cups. The little girls thought they were so grown-up and special to be able to sip from such beautiful punch cups!

We decorated tiaras, painted fingernails, colored in our very own princess coloring books, played pin the lips on the frog, and a variation of duck, duck, goose that we called princess, princess, fairy.

The only downer to having such a girly-affair, is Kaitlyn's older brother did not want to participate in much of the fun! But, he did manage to find his way upstairs once the cake and punch was served. He also came up while we were playing princess, princess, fairy. We asked him if he wanted to play and he said, "no way!" But, we asked him if we played duck, duck, goose if he would join us girls. He said, "sure." He's such a funny little boy! He wanted no part of the princess girly stuff whatsoever!

I am blessed to be Kaitlyn Rebekah's mother. It is hard for me to believe she was born five years ago. She is a sweet little girl. She loves to sing about Jesus...who He is...and all He's done for us. I pray daily for her to understand how desperately she needs the Jesus she loves to sing about. I pray one day, and one day soon...she will ask Jesus to come to her rescue. She, like all of so desperately needs saving.
