Kids in the Kitchen

We have a pretty good thing going here. My 7-year-old daughter, K, is cooking one night per week now. We grocery shop once every two weeks, so she plans two meals, helps me add her items to our shopping list, and she's all ready to go come Monday night!

This week, one of the side dishes she made was called 5-cup salad. 2 out of 5 family members liked it. K's brother, T was one of the members who did like it and he said, "It's the best salad he's ever tasted!" I think the marshmallows had something to do with it!
5 Cup Salad
1 cup pineapple chunks
1 cup mandarin oranges
1 cup coconut
1 cup mini marshmallows
1 cup sour cream

I'm linking this post up today (7/8/10) over at the Homeschool Village, where other moms are sharing their experiences with cooking with the children. Check it out!

Wow I would love to know what other recipes you let your 7 year old do. My daughter just turned 7 and never thought she could plan a whole meal. Would love to know more details!!
Thanks-
