Loving With My Words

Valentines Day is all about love and since I want my words to show my children how much I love them, I can easily use 1 Corinthians 13:4-8 as a guide to examine myself and see if I am exhibiting this type of love to my children in how I speak and treat them.

Would my children say:

“My mom is patient, my mom is kind. My mom does not envy, my mom does not boast, my mom is not proud. My mom is not rude, my mom is not self-seeking, my mom is not easily angered, my mom keeps no record of wrongs. My mom does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. My mom always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

I can fix my children heart-shaped pancakes on Valentine's Day, write them notes, dip strawberries for them, and fix their favorite meal, but if my words and actions the other 364 days of the year do not back it up, then I am only a clanging cymbal, I am nothing, and I gain nothing (1 Corinthians 13:1-3).

Father, help me to love my children well. May my words never cause them to doubt how much I love them and also point them to You and Your great love for them. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.

Hi Nikki! I'm Karen't cousin, JessiAnn (And, yes, I am totally blog-stalking you, but only because, since I'm not a Facebooker I would love to get to know all of you... SO I googled your blod :)) Anyway, I actually do have a post-related comment: I LOVED this post. At first, I had to giggle because the pictures of your Valentine's Day morning look uncanningly similar to our's! Same cut-out hearts and heart-shaped pancakes and all! But, your point of view on 1 Corinthians TOTALLY HIT HOME! Thank you for that. Happy blogging, dress shopping, and wedding planning ;) (And soon, I will email everyone and introduce myself; then, hopefully, I won't seem so stalker-ish :))
