Family Worship

I took this picture during our first Family Worship Time in our new home! The girls are singing and dancing as Dad leads us in worship. The boy is over there in the rocking chair banging out a beat. Our family worship times are a lot of fun and always full of JOY! Dad leads us in a few worship songs, he reads, and then we close in prayer. We have almost finished a book called "A Faith to Grown On...Important Things You Should Know Now That You Believe." by John MacArthur. When we are done with this book our plan is to read Scripture directly from the Bible (what a concept, huh?).

For prayer requests we have what we call a "prayer basket." We used to have slips of paper that requests were written on. We still have the slips of paper, but now the basket also has pictures of people/families we pray for regularly. Everyone in the family is given one request or picture to pray for. Those requests get moved to the bottom of the basket when we're done and we rotate so we will pray for a different group of requests our next family worship time If you sent us a picture in your Christmas card, you are in our prayer basket. I did not come up with this idea on my own, but I read it over at one of my favorite blogs, Today's Housewife.

Do you and your family have a time of worship together? What does family worship time at your house look like?

I really like the idea of family worship time. I hope that when I'm ready to start a family, we will have family worship time as well. I also like the idea of the prayer basket. In fact, I may incorporate it into my Sunday school class a time or two to see how it works out. It would be great for the kids who have something to pray about but don't want to say it during prayer request time.

I love that picture! We sortof have family worship time...my husband is rarely home before bedtime so we have to do it without him. We read scripture and pray. Usually prayer is a different theme every night. One night it might me our family...grandparents and such. The next it might be the kids school and teachers. The next it might be soilders and their families. But we just got a CD of worship songs from our church and I think we'll start using that to sing with. So fun!!!
